Sweet and Salty Breakfast Sandwich

August 24, 2019 by amyreeves24@gmail.com Leave a Comment

Perfect for breakfast or dinner, this Sweet and Savory Breakfast Sandwich is a unique and delicious take on your every day breakfast sandwich. And as a bonus, you can easily freeze and reheat for a filling and scrumptious breakfast on the go.

My complete love for breakfast sandwich doesn’t make sense. I don’t really love cinnamon raisin bagels to begin with. And a cinnamon raisin bagel sandwiching cheese, eggs, and ham? What strange world are we living in? But please trust me. Something about this sweet and savory combo is out of this world. It’s is SO good. A recipe where the whole is so much more than the sum of its parts.

After recently inhaling enjoying one of these breakfast sandwiches for dinner, I pondered whether or not these really counted as a “recipe”. I can’t imagine this concept is going to blow anyone’s mind. But it’s unique enough and delicious enough, I decided that it’s worth it’s own post.

Beyond the obvious breakfast and brinner potential, these bagel sandwiches are absolutely perfect for assembling in advance to freeze and reheat for breakfast on the go. So many of my quick breakfast options are sweet and not very satisfying. Protein bars, yogurt, granola bars… These often leave me hungry 15 minutes later. But if you heat up one of these bad boys in the morning, you’re good to go until lunch.

You can assemble these 2 ways- You can either make the sandwiches one at a time, putting everything into one big frying pan too cook.

Or, you can batch cook each ingredient and assemble the sandwiches all at once. Dealer’s choice.

Either way you make ’em, they are absolutely worth a try. Of course you can swap out bagel flavors, types of cheese, meat, maybe even add different vegetables if you are inclined. But I am implore you to be brave, at least once, and try a savory breakfast sandwich on a cinnamon raisin bagel. I have a hunch that it’ll blow your mind.

  • 1 tsp butter
  • 1 cinnamon raisin bagel
  • 1 egg
  • Seasoning salt
  • 1 slice cooked Canadian bacon ham, or bacon
  • 1-2 slices cheddar cheese

  2. Place sliced bagels cut side down in the pan, off to one side. Let cook for 1 minute.
  3. Crack egg directly into pan. Use spatula to tuck edges in to keep egg from spreading into bagel. Sprinkle with seasoned salt.
  4. Place ham or bacon into skillet to warm and brown. Carefully flip egg.
  5. Remove bagel to plate. Add cheese on top of bottom bagel slice.
  6. When egg is cooked to desired doneness, remove from pan and place on top of bagel and cheese. Top with Canadian bacon and top bagel piece. Enjoy immediately!
  7. To freeze: Assemble bagel sandwich and allow to cool. Wrap tightly in foil and freeze. To reheat, remove bagel from foil, wrap in a paper towel, and microwave for 1-2 minutes.
