Zebra Popcorn

December 19, 2019 by amyreeves24@gmail.com Leave a Comment

This Zebra Popcorn is the best crunchy baked caramel corn, topped with white and brown chocolate stripes. It’s the best treat to give away to friends and neighbors, as long as you remember to save plenty for yourself!

You guys, I am alive. Very barely. I had my tonsils removed 2 weeks ago, and I am just barely crawling out of that pit of misery. Everyone told me it would be brutal, but I did not fully believe them. Needless to say, it’s been awhile since I have enjoyed this crunchy and crispy Zebra Popcorn. And I am very sad about that. I can’t wait for the day that crunchy things are back in my life!

When the urge for caramel corn strikes, I typically make this super soft and gooey caramel corn or this insanely easy marshmallow popcorn.

But once in a while, I get a hankering for some crunchy baked caramel corn. And this stuff can’t be beat. And topped with the zebra chocolate stripes? Absolute perfection.

If you’re ready to elevate your chocolate game, I can not recommend Chocoley Chocolate enough. Their chocolate melts so easily, is so smooth and easy to work with, and tastes SO good. Almond bark and other dipping chocolates are dead to me. For this zebra popcorn I used their Decocoa White Gourmet Compound Chocolate and the Bada Bing Bada Boom Dark Chocolate Dipping and Coating Formula.

I can not overstate how impressed by this chocolate I am. I won’t dip or drizzle with anything else! And not only is it perfect for covering goodies, it’s delicious on its own, or used as chocolate chips in cookies or brownies! It is so rare to find a chocolate that tastes and functions so perfectly.

I am not usually a fan of white chocolate, but I LOVE their white chocolate! And this white chocolate comes in this super handy bag- Melt the chocolate right in the bag in the microwave, knead it, snip the corner, and drizzle away! No dishes! It’s amazing.

For any drizzling methods, I love microwaving the chocolate in a bag and then drizzling right from the bag. It eliminates extra dishes and is so fast and easy! And if you’re about to draft a comment about how I’m going to cancer from the microwave, I invite you to write your thoughts onto a piece of paper and then throw it away. It will have the same effect. Ha! Sorry to be so snarky. If you’re concerned about microwave cancer, just melt it in a bowl and do the extra dang dishes.

Anyway! No matter how you melt the chocolate, make this Zebra Popcorn! It’s incredible, addicting, and so fun!

Do you give away treats to neighbors at Christmastime? I love giving away goodies, and this would be perfect!

Ingredients

  • 7 quarts plain popcorn (about 3/4 c unpopped kernels) popped
  • 2 c brown sugar
  • 1/2 c light corn syrup
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1 c butter
  • 1/2 tsp baking soda

  1. Spread popcorn onto 2 greased shallow pans, such as jelly roll pans or disposable roasting pans.
  2. Preheat oven to 250. In a large saucepan, combine brown sugar, corn syrup, salt, and butter. Bring to boil over medium heat, stirring until everything is well combined. Boil for 5 minutes, stirring constantly.
  3. Remove from heat and stir in baking soda and vanilla. Immediately pour the caramel over the popcorn, tossing popcorn to coat.
  4. Bake for one hour, removing pans every 15 minutes to toss popcorn.
  5. Melt white chocolate in microwave, microwaving for 30 seconds and then kneading bag or stirring until completely melted. Drizzle over popcorn. Repeat with milk chocolate. Allow to cool and then break into pieces. Store in an airtight container for up to 1 week.
