Best Ever Rice Krispie Treats

March 8, 2019 by amyreeves24@gmail.com 3 Comments

Rice Krispie treats seem like a thing you couldn’t really mess up. But oh, how you can.

We’ve all been there. Scoping out the options at the dessert table, and you spy a plate of Rice Krispie treats. Seems like a safe bet. But as soon as you pick up that brittle brick, you know you’ve made a mistake, and you’re going to leave that dessert table with the roof of your mouth shredded, and regretting all life choices that led you to this moment.

You may be saying to yourself, “But Amy, they sell pre-made Rice Krispie treats at the store!”

Yes, yes they do. But they also sell steak at Waffle House, and that doesn’t mean you should head to WaHo for Filet Mignon.

All of this to say: There is one right way, and so many wrong ways, to make a Rice Krispie treat.

And this, dear friends, is the right way.

Tried and true, and loved by all I’ve shared with, I can say with full confidence that these are the best Rice Krispie treats out there. Your search is over.

You know what I can’t say with full confidence? Rice Krispie treat. Is it Krispy? Crispy? Crispie? It all looks wrong.

Spell ’em however you want, but make them just like this.

The Secrets to Crisp Rice Cereal Treat Success

• Melt your butter over low heat, and stir in 1 and 1/2 bags of your marshmallows. Melt those mallows but DO NOT cook too long! If you cook your butter and marshmallow mixture too long, your treats will be brittle and your life will be sad. When your mallows are just barely melted, remove from heat.

• Come in closer, this is the real secret- Save 1/2 a bag of marshmallows for adding in with your cereal. This creates barely-melted little pockets of heaven in your rice krispie treats.

• Spray your hands with a little cooking spray before you press your treats into the pan. And don’t compact the treats too much, just enough to keep them together.

• The ideal Rice Krispie treat should have this heavenly streeeeetch quality. These cute little 4-year-old hands were only too willing to demonstrate.

I’m not saying that you’re dumb if you like to make Rice Krispie treats from the recipe on the back of the box… I’m just saying you shouldn’t vote.

Kidding. About the voting. But not about how much better these Rice Krispie treats are.

I tried this recipe awhile back bc I love rice krispie treats and they did not disappoint. I loved having the bigger pieces of marshmallows that hadn’t been mixed in all the way, they help to satisfy my sweet tooth and these are so addicting! You can’t eat just one!
